Jesus was asked by a lawyer of the Pharisees, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Our Lord's answer could have been anything involved with the Law of Moses, but His response was of something more powerful. Jesus' reply was " Love your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ' Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments." Wow! How powerful is our Lord's answer, and today the answer is the same to this question. It makes me realize, that I must know that there is only one God in my life, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Also, the Lover of God must be in me to help me love God. The Lover of God I am talking about is the Holy Spirit.
Since I began walking with the Lord in 1969, my love for God has had to be cultivated, stirred up, made to increase, so that my love for God and especially for others will stay active. So by staying active in loving the Lord, with the help of the Holy Ghost in me, I can identify God's love working through me to love and have an interest in people. I know that there are many hindrances in this world that will make us want to slow down our prayer life, our devotion, our worship and in turn will affect our love life to God. That is why Jesus gave this to us as our greatest commandment. So this is something that we should always be brushing up on so that we can love as God loves.
Paul prayed a prayer for the Ephesians in Ephesians 3:16-20 NIV. It says " I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being. so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge---that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."
What a powerful and loving prayer that Paul prayed, and I ask why he would pray something like that for the Ephesian church? It was because he loved them. Paul was one who was powered by the Holy Spirit and I believe he was rooted and established in love. Paul was in it, he was committed to loving God as it says in Romans 8 :35 says NIV " Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?"
Brethren the Cross of Jesus is the all powerful supreme evidence of the love of God for us, so let us love our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind and with all our strength. Let the Lover of God (Holy Spirit) help us to do and obey this wonderful commandment of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God Bless You today in his Word!
