A huge element the early Christians possessed within themselves seems to be missing today. The element I am talking about is love. Not a worldly love but the love that comes from God, that helps us to love one another. If we are a people that are truly committed to a deep and profound Spirit-led life with God, then we would as believers, express that same love towards one another. It's not about loving each other out of convenience or out of obligation but about loving genuinely and freely from our hearts. John 13:34-35 (KJV) says "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
If you noticed, Jesus gave this as a "new" commandment. It had been corrupted by old traditions however, Jesus renewed it. Jesus says in John 14:15 (KJV) " If ye love me, keep my commandments." So our love to one another as Christians must be obeyed, it must be freely given, and always ready to be shared with one another. Jesus did the same for us all the way to the cross. It wasn't the nails that kept our Savior to the cross, it was His love for us that kept Him there until it was finished. What an awesome and amazing love!
1 John 4:20 (KJV) says " If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar; for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
Today, neighbors no longer converse, parents are cruel to their children, children are cruel to their parents and nations are against nations. We live in a lost and fallen world. However, there is something we can do as children of the light. We can restore our church identity as people who love, so that the world may know that we aren't just ordinary people but ordinary people who love because of God. The world needs to not only hear the gospel but they need to feel and see our testimony of a Savior who loves and lives through us. Why? So that the unsaved will seek His love also. John 4:8 (KJV) says "For God is Love." We must remember that we are the people God can use to show His love to those around us. Let's Love One Another and be the light of the world! Because God is Love!
God bless you!
